Now if we look at nuclear (Laughter)

First, by 2020, North America will be energy independent by taking full advantage of our oil, our coal, our gas and nuclear and renewables.

Nobody in the world knew that a self sustained fission chain reaction was even possible up until somewhere around 1938. Very few people understand all these options that are available in nuclear energy.

Atomic energy can be utilized for peaceful purposes.

The decay energy is the energy released by a nuclear decay.

On the other hand, if we start thinking about some of these other things we can do, that story changes.

Nuclear power is safe.

There are other options for generating power as well, which don't involve fossil fuels.

Not hydrogen or plutonium or somethin' really cool I've never heard of?

Unfortunately, many of us in this room are supporters of capitalist policies and market forces.

Let's talk a little bit about how nuclear fission works.

Let's split up.

If you go to nuclear, you do get a big reduction, but it's not as much as with wind and concentrated solar.

So and then when you compare the lifetime emissions of these various energy forms, nuclear is about even with solar and wind, and ahead of solar oh, I'm sorry with hydro and wind, and ahead of solar.

So the atom is roughly on the scale of an angstrom.

The fuel shortage awoke the country to the need for developing atomic energy.

Does the administration understand all the options available? Does anybody really understand clearly the fact that nuclear energy is a completely disruptive technology?

And one last slide I just want to show. This is the choice

This is based on ranges from data, but if you look at nuclear, it would be the size of Rhode Island to power the U.S. vehicle fleet.

We live in the atomic age.

There are two nations, North Korea and Israel, that have nuclear weapons and don't have nuclear power at all.

Nuclear power currently accounts for less than 4 of the energy consumed worldwide.
