Massive coal reserves.

They're really difficult for plants to produce.

When the Industrial Revolution started, the amount of carbon sitting underneath Britain in the form of coal was as big as the amount of carbon sitting under Saudi Arabia in the form of oil.

The number of children is not growing any longer in the world.

And together they only form about 15 years of supply.

And you hear the words scarce resources a lot when people talk about economics.

This is the Alberta tar sands, the largest oil reserves on the planet outside of Saudi Arabia.

An analogue would be the growth of bacteria in a petri dish.

Where do they get their water? Where do they get their shelter?

Running horizontally along the graph, is ecological footprint, which is a measure of how much resources we use and how much pressure we put on the planet.

Trapped underneath the boreal forest and wetlands of northern Alberta are these vast reserves of this sticky, tar like bitumen.

That was one of those turning points where I said, wow what am I doing here?

The Marines and their observers patrolling this dangerous area and a reserve of oil to 1,000 feet away

But we are entering an increasingly dangerous period of our history.

And economics is very interested in scarcity.

Resources.

The flat horizon that we've evolved with has been a metaphor for the infinite unbounded resources and unlimited capacity for disposal of waste.

We have used earth's energy resources as if they were limitless.

I have unauthorized allocation

And if you look at the species level, you saw about fish.

Growth of use will consume any energy or resources saved through conservation.

There are huge coal reserves that are sitting out there, and we've got to start thinking of them as biological energy, because if we keep treating them as chemical energy, or engineering energy, we're going to be in deep doo doo.

In order to restore the bond, we need to utilize regional resources.

So what happened was that, through increased ability to use fracking technology, the calculated reserves of natural gas kind of exploded and the price plummeted, which made wind uncompetitive.

We're looking at building on some of the most precious resources of Africa people.

They are the happiest place.
