And there's a difference between floating ice and Iandbased ice.

And at worst, I didn't even want to think about it.

Floating throughout this region are many icebergs, and nobody owns them.

Ice and Glaciers

So ice is about 9 less dense than water, which means it floats on the top.

We're seeing them in the Beaufort Sea, floating in the open ocean where the ice has melted out.

I went under that ice cap in a nuclear submarine that surfaced through the ice like this.

Now, West Antarctica is the part of the continent where the ice is grounded on sea floor as much as 2,000 meters deep.
