Blood flows through blood vessels.

Imagine the blood flowing through your body

So again this is right when the heart is squeezing blood out. So we know blood is flowing through here.

That's usually the flow of blood.

The same thing happens on this side.

When an area of the brain is active, meaning a neural area is active, it gets blood flow shunted to that area.

That waste, let's draw a little ball right here, it's going to start accumulating, you're going to start collecting more and more of it since the blood is not really flowing.

The left atrium and the left ventricle.

And to allow that, I need to show you, these open up.

And that's gonna be dumping into the top of the heart. And then separately you have veins from the legs.

The pulmonary veins drain blood and into the left atrium, right.

Right, the body is kind of the thing that's gonna be receiveing all the blood.

And two, is that it actually helps you generate movement of blood.

let's say that, and I'm gonna draw it in black, black arrows represent the wrong direction of flow,

We call that the aortic arch.

It's gonna go into all these true capillaries, right.

The other cool feature about elastic energy is that not only does it lower your pressure which we have talked about, but it also can be used to convert it into movement energy.

But one of the most common defects would be that you would have a communication between these two.

And then on the other side where the veins are bringing blood back to the heart most of the blood as it turns out, most of the blood actually goes this way into the pulmonary veins.

On the next heartbeat, blood would start going the wrong direction, because this valve is not able to maintain a nice tight seal.

So carbon dioxide is waste for this cell. So it's making some waste and for the moment let's imagine that there's no blood flow.

So let's get started in the upper part of the heart. The Right atrium, It's right there.

So you can imagine if you have these things build up, it's narrowing the actual vessel that's supplying blood downstream from that obstruction.

So these are the two direction the blood is going to be flowing.

This is an artery. And blood is actually going through the artery, that way.

And the veins actually drain into a spot , directly into the right atrium.

And then you've got the capillaries, you've got some blood kind of from both places the pulmonary circulation and the blood from the systemic circulation again mixing.

And this is my right pulmonary artery. So this is my right and left pulmonary artery.

So let's get a little more precise with the words we've been talking about, especially with heart disease and heart failure and all of the rest.

In the top left hand corner, you've got this yellow green area.

Then these valves are going to close down.

These two have opened up and blood is coming into the ventricles.

And this is of course the aorta. This is my aorta.

Let me start there. For the systemic circulation, I'm gonna start in the left ventricle and it's gonna go round to the body.

So basically the back flow of blood is not allowed because the valves keep shutting.

This is the second chamber of the heart. And it gets there by passing through the valve.

The job, the second job of the heart, is actually also in this picture, and it's called pulmonary flow.

It's gonna be going initially through a giant vessel.
