That red piece of brain tissue is your somatosensory cortex.

It has two main components.

The first is tactile sensations, things you feel in your skin.

And that's kind of surprising, because your sense of touch is really important.

Our brains are constantly working, synchronizing what we see, hear, smell, and touch into meaningful experience in the moment to moment flow of the present.
