This determination of people, the resilience of the human spirit,

I have worked for the policy changes.

So in these countries, more economic transactions occur and more wealth is created, alleviating poverty.

Many diseases result from poverty.

And Haiti, if you've ever been there, is just a tragedy.

Many are dying because of all those kind of pandemics,

And back home, what do you see?

Nelson Mandela said, in the mid 2000s, not too far from here, he said that like slavery and apartheid, Poverty is not natural.

We want freedom from poverty.

People struggled against poverty.

It was the increase in population that caused the poverty.

We can make history.

But it also tells us something about one of these things that we think that we know.

It was self sufficiency.

You see people struggling to get by.

Didn't they know what was happening?

But I was at a TED event recently and Esther Duflo, probably one of the leading experts in, effectively, the eradication of poverty in the developing world, actually spoke.

Let's see if we can learn a thing or two about the hyperbola.
