I don't know about you, but I find it exhilarating to see how vague psychological notions evaporate and give rise to a physical, mechanistic understanding of the mind, even if it's the mind of the fly.

Here's the key feature though.

I go to the concept of The Lion King and I say, What is the essence of it?

This is known as an 'ideogram' or a conceptual picture of an abstract idea.

But what we want to propose, is that the highest levels of abstraction, things like mathematics, computing, logic, etc. all of this can be engaged with, not just through purely cerebral algebraic symbolic methods, but by literally, physically playing with ideas.

Let's remind ourselves that cells are not an abstract concept.

The idea of happiness is extremely abstract.

So, not just that basic mental template and pre planning, but now let's add to that the ability to envision and work with abstract concepts.

Well, we can go back to what we said before.

The philosopher William James described the world of newborn infants as a buzzing and blooming confusion.

So we fill our cognitive maps with these markers of meaning.

The other thing we talked about in Unit 4 was how networks work.

You're not even capable of thinking in abstractions.

Now you might say, hey Sal, why are you even introducing this idea of a linear combination?

Language is not I mean, things don't have any mutable value by themselves we ascribe them a value.

Because it's an ideal. It's an imaginary thing. We can't have it.
