Coronary heart disease would be redundant, because coronary is already referring to the heart.

And so specifically you might hear about a coronary artery, or a coronary vein, but together you can call them coronary blood vessels.

And I started having ischemia to the heart.

And these are called coronary arteries.

If this isn't a coronary... well...

He's got a beer belly in his coronary arteries.

That's what we call coronary artery disease, or heart disease.

It also dilates the coronary arteries, so it stops angina.

And let me actually show you where the blood vessels come from. These are called coronary vessels I just write the word coronary here.

Now if you have stenosis in one of your blood vessels, and it leads to ischemia then the muscles, and let's just say this a coronary artery here... the muscle cells over here are going to get less oxygen.

The other symptom that actually might occur when someone has coronary heart disease, where they have obstruction or this ischemia or this deprivation of oxygen downstream from this obstruction, is that they might experience this kind of strangling chest pain

Well, these vessels, all of them, together are called coronary vessels.

So these coronary blood vessels are actually serving the heart muscle itself.

This right over here is called the left coronary artery or LCA.

So this causes coronary artery disease, which is sometimes called heart disease.

His heart was fine then. A coronary can hit anybody, any time.

The fact is, I went there to recuperate from a coronary attack.

So ischemia is deprivation of blood flow and oxygen downstream from this right over there.

The syndrome, the female pattern now is called microvascular coronary dysfunction, or obstruction.

A means to determine if there's a complete blockage of a coronary artery.

Officially, they're characterizing that it was a coronary brought on by systemic shock.

In that general process we talk about the restriction of blood flow, that is ischemia that's happening.

And this right over here in red is called the right coronary arteries or the RCA.

Not only coronary heart disease just is not getting enough oxygen, now they are actually dead.

40 percent of our coronary artery disease patients in our communities receive incomplete or inappropriate care.

It's still getting some base level oxygen less because of the stenosis and ischemia but it still gets some oxygen.

And so when people talk about arteries getting blocked or getting clogged, they're talking about the coronary arteries.

At that time, much of the fat in the American diet was still not directly linked to coronary heart disease.

So, those cells are going to need blood vessels supplying them as well. So, that's what the coronary blood vessels are.

Well if the main job is to serve the needs of cells, then the coronary vessels fall under the systmic flow.

You can imagine when heart tissue begins to die, this is even worse than what we were describing with coronary heart disease.

This restriction of blood supply that usually leads to some loss of function is called 'ischemia', another fancy word, that literally just means 'restricted blood supply'.

And people with silent ischemia which, translated into English, means they don't have any symptoms it takes even longer for them to get to the hospital.

Now you've probably the heard the term 'Coronary Heart Disease' or maybe just 'Heart Disease'... these three things are all the SAME thing.

And we got to do the WlSE study and the WlSE stands for Women's Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation and I have chaired this study for the last 15 years.

They all imply some sort of narrowing, or stenosis, of arteries that leads to ischemia, reduced blood flow, so that the heart can't function as well as it otherwise could.

This is the mechanism by which you lower blood pressure, by which you dilate the coronary arteries also, to let the blood be supplied with the heart.

So when this guy is jogging, because he has restricted blood supply because the heart is experiencing ischemia downstream from this stenosis, that's why there's heart failure so not able to deliver

And these coronary vessles they actually come right off the aorta here and here. So they kind of come off the aorta right away, they are the first branches off the aorta, actually.

If the average age in your country is 45 to 55, now the average person is looking at diabetes, early onset diabetes, heart failure, coronary artery disease things that are inherently more difficult to treat, and much more expensive to treat.

Now suppose you live in a certain part of a certain remote place and you have a loved one who has blockages in two coronary arteries and your family doctor refers that loved one to a cardiologist who's batting 200 on angioplasties.
