And We sent no prophet unto any township but We did afflict its folk with tribulation and adversity that haply they might grow humble.

Who expend both in joy and tribulation, who suppress their anger and pardon their fellowmen and God loves those who are upright and do good,

We have sent already unto peoples that were before thee, and We visited them with tribulation and adversity, in order that they might grow humble.

When We give mankind a taste of Our blessing, they rejoice therein but if they encounter tribulation because of their own actions they fall into despair.

And We sent not a prophet to any township but We laid hold of the people thereof with tribulation and distress that haply they may humble themselves.

Then changed We the evil plight for good till they grew affluent and said Tribulation and distress did touch our fathers. Then We seized them unawares, when they perceived not.

Thereafter We substituted ease in place of adversity until they abounded and said even Thus tribulation and prosperity touched our fathers. Then We laid hold of them of a sudden, while they perceived not.

Go on fighting with them till there is no more a state of tribulation and Allah's way is established instead. Then if they desist from it, there should be no more hostility except against those who had been guilty of cruelty and brutality.

When We said to you, Indeed your Lord encircles those people, We did not appoint the vision that We showed you except as a tribulation for the people and the tree cursed in the Quran. We warn them, but it only increases them in their outrageous rebellion.
