I just wanted to paint a brief picture of what's transpired over the last year.

Here are some of the statistics.

It's exciting that so many Scratch Day events taking place all around the world.

It has grown beyond any of our wildest expectations.

1403 Past Events

We've had about 40 TEDx events that will be oriented towards kids between now and the end of this year.

Around 300 TEDx Youth events are being organized all around the world...

We've had over almost 2,500 events with another about 1,200 events planned.

We've had events in 80 countries and 25 different languages.

The festival will be held next week.

The reason is quite obvious.

Well, normally, a charity starts with the cause, and someone that is directly affected by a cause.

People were wowed.

Between November and May, Rio's completely packed.

I can't really believe that it only took 18 months for all those 55 TEDx events to take place in such a small country

But there is something special about meeting in person, face to face, to share with one another.

We've had about 40 youth events and there have been about 100 events on university campuses.

Now let's go to month two

Sure, you don't want to lose money.

While it launched just under two and half years ago, we've had almost 2,000 events around the world.

They are really excelling.

We lent our name, our format, a few simple guidelines and some of our content but the really hard work to make today happen has been down to your local organizers and we are truly in awe of the passion and dedication that they have shown to make something like this work.

We've had 600 TEDx events to date.

This event here today actually seems equally miraculous to me.

It really is truly exciting.

The opening ceremony took place yesterday.

We launched this little experiment at TED just over a year ago called TEDx where x equals independently organized events.

The committee will meet next Friday.

TED itself had really nothing to do with organizing it.
