Over time,

Here's me and my dad a couple days after I was born.

And I used three criteria the first was, I thought I'd talk about real design within reach, design that's free, not design not quite within reach, as we're fondly known by our competition and competitors, but stuff that you can find on the streets, stuff that was free, stuff that was available to all people, and stuff that probably contains some other important messages.

When all of these tariffs are reduced, the things that we're supposed to encourage, and jump start an industry, the industry collapses.

(Laughter)

That was the level of rhetoric.

Why does this matter?

Well, it turns out that it's actually not illegal.

I know nothing about that. But it's your responsibility.

You kind of want to compare apples to apples.

The first is be aware of the propaganda.

We have the biggest damage claim.

So, I thought I have to meet somebody who can tell me about technology.

We have to ask ourselves hard questions.

However there is a political battle in our country.

And what the way I looked at design and the way I looked at the world was, what was going on around me and the things that came at the time I walked into design were the enemy.

And just to give you one instance of this food.

Started getting involved very early on in the maker movement and then went back to school for industrial design.

Novelty is a concept of commerce, not an aesthetic concept.

The large firms in the industry call all the shots.

Are we designing for the world that we want?

They can do graphic design, all kinds of stuff with computers, photography, industrial design.

The computer industry is enjoying a boom.

We've questioned the future of capitalism.

Their focus in on freshness, and immediate consumption.

What Howard Moskowitz was doing was saying,

Well, you can still sell novels without books.

No, but it's true the Internet has changed the world.

Are we designing for the world that's coming, whether we're ready or not?

Are we designing for the world that we want?

I was there going into the design stores, and mixing with our crowd of designers, and I recognized that a whole lot of stuff pretty much looked the same, and the effect of globalization has had that in our community also.

That experience alone was incredibly eye opening to me.

The export business isn't doing well.
