What I'm going to try and do is to give some pointers to what I think is the landscape on the other side of the crisis, what things we should be looking out for and how we can actually use the crisis.

The economy still hasn't completely recovered from the financial crisis.

Goldman's making record profits, paying out huge bonuses.

We certainly can't trust the bankers, and we certainly can't trust the brokers.

It's not just competitive, it's also caring.

And almost straightaway we actually run up against a couple of anomalies.

So this is shortly after a lot of the craziness of the financial crisis was happening but it was still going on.

And it's an idea that I think is very prevalent at these TED Talks, the idea that we can invent our way out of a profound economic and energy crisis, that a move to a knowledge economy can somehow neatly sidestep those energy constraints, the idea that we'll discover some fabulous new source of energy that will mean we can sweep all concerns about energy security to one side, the idea that we can step off neatly onto a completely renewable world.

And the current narrative is all about the rise of China and the decline of the United States.

That's the financial crisis.

So I think that we're going to see a series of crisis moments, each one more severe than the last.

Have you ever tried to do a jigsaw puzzle but one of the pieces was missing?

I never even went on a date with her.

We are standing in the middle of a time when great injustice is not touched.

And it's been such a big portion of the economic picture especially the last 10 years.

And everywhere, as people think about the unprecedented sums which are being spent of our money and our children's money, now, in the depth of this crisis, they're asking

Because of the depth of the crisis, I think we are at a moment of choice.

That's the rate at which you don't have hyperinflation, but you're utilizing things quite well.
