And there's another in joke among statisticians, and that's,

And we'll start by thinking of the idea of average. And in every day terminology, average has a very particular meaning, as we'll see. When many people talk about average, they're talking about the arithmetic mean, which we'll see shortly.

This time it's about cancer testing.

They say ignorance is bliss, but they are wrong all but finitely often.

So that's what we're going to focus on.

It sounds arrogant to say that most people are smarter than the average person.

So most of us put ourselves above average on most of these abilities.

Now, to make this more concrete,

So statistics is all about data.

And statistically speaking, there's very little chance for recovery.

Activity Mapping then triangulates the source of that abnormality in the brain.

The central limit theorem, and this is, was developed by a statisticians and is used in applied statistics to do inferentials.

I hope that this simple example made up think.

And, unbelievably, it comes up once again heads.

You can use entirely without understanding why it's correct.

Although I did have a lot of Math and Statistical training as a graduate student.

I really realized my discovery.

So, you see, these are all different ways of trying to get at a typical, or middle, or central tendency. But they do it in very, very different ways. And as we study more and more statistics, we'll see that they're good for different things.

In this unit, I want to show you a problem that will illustrate how deep statistics can actually be.

And there's been a revolution in our understanding of machine learning recently.

Now the computer knows as much about Kimble as you do.

Or even the challenges of nation states in the modern global economy.

So that's my other just general comment at the top. I do this for all of my scripts, because I teach several different statistics classes.

This distinction is where most stats courses start off.

And then once we build our toolkit on the descriptive statistics, then we can start to make inferences about that data, start to make conclusions, start to make judgments.

So the, the mantra still applies, correlation does not imply causation. Um, and I like to put in here in my graduate level class.
